Ghana’s Tigo Cash has been declared the “Best Mobile Money Product in West Africa” at the 2013 Kalahari Awards which took place in Nigeria. The award is given to organisations that have made significant contribution to the mobile financial sector and are poised to change the market landscape in the near future.

Tigo Cash competed against several mobile money products from telecom operators, independent mobile money operators and banks across the sub-region and emerged victorious because of its uniqueness among its core competitive base. Tigo Cash stood out because it is accessible to anyone on any network, and in 2011, the platform was used to pay over 600 claims on the company’s award-winning insurance scheme, Tigo’s Family Care Insurance. The platform floated an estimated GHC11 million every day, and it recorded almost a million transactions every month.

Mr Selorm Adadevoh the Head of Mobile Financial Services at Tigo received the award on behalf of Tigo and stated: “We are excited to have been recognised as The Best Mobile Money Product in West Africa.
