Tell us about the premise behind your business

When I used to work as a shop attendant in the UK, I realised that almost all the African foods that were imported came in their raw state without any value addition. This condition allowed for easy contamination and made the foods highly perishable. The situation also limited market access and national revenue of the individual exporting countries.  I learnt a few conventional ways of preserving food from my mom during my adolescence and I thought of commercialising these preservative techniques when I returned from the UK.  I consulted with my family and some friends at Food Research Institute and made some trials with products like banku powder and hausa koko powder. A few friends in Europe were asked to try the products and the feedback was very encouraging.

I then started by sending a few boxes by air to friends who then gave it to other friends. The orders started trickling in and that was it – the birth of Praise Export Services Ltd. We later developed other products to add to the package and now we have over 10 products in our baskets.

How does it feel to be nominated for the Efie Ne Fie award and what would winning mean to you?
