Derick Addae’s love for technology and passion for innovation led to the creation of GIL Cooperation Ltd. GIL ltd is a company focused on supplying the latest in technology and appliances. This family run business is customer focused and seeks to bring the latest in technology to clients worldwide.
Derick and his company have recently released their very own computer tablet known as the G-Slab.This young man’s ambitions is gaining him popularity in the technological world, with the G-Slab rumoured to compete with the current tablets on the market.Another accomplishment for Derek is his nomination for the GUBA Blavo Young Entrepreneur Award.
Competing amongst other accomplished entrepreneurs, Derick tells us why he should be selected as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the insightful interview below…
Tell us about the premise behind your business
It was an idea thought of some years back but was kept away for 6 months because it seemed bigger than I could handle. After sometime it became evident that it was an idea that was not going away. I really had a passion to create a tablet, so I took the idea to the now co-founder and she loved the concept. Together with prayer and the amazing support from our family members, the idea I thought I could not handle myself started coming alive.
How does it feel to be nominated for the Young Entrepreneur Award and what would winning mean to you?
When I initially told my team about the nomination they did not believe me. We were very happy and it was a good feeling that day. To come from nowhere to a nomination at the GUBA Awards is a gift from God.
What do you think about the GUBA Awards?
Honestly I am 100% proud of the GUBA Awards. Personally, it gives me a sense of pride knowing that the Ghanaian community have a solid and classy annual event for the people in the UK. I think it will do so many positive things for Ghanaians in both Ghana and the UK.
Where does your motivation come from?
My mother is my motivation, she is a business woman and I used to work with her when I was younger. She has taught me a lot so my motivation is to work hard and to be able to provide for her. My partner Natasha has also been my motivator, I had a really hard time in my life but she helped me through it and encourage me to create the G-slab.
Do you have any plans of expanding your business?
We are currently here in the UK and will be moving full time to Ghana. In the next year, we also plan to expand to Kenya and South Africa.
Are you involved in any other projects?
We are currently seeking other organisations,fashion designers and musicians to collaborate with as we strongly believe in the strength of collaboration.
What message would you give to aspiring and upcoming entrepreneurs?
Just do it! Whatever it is you want to do and as long as it is feasible, just do it!The law of attraction works, so seek what you want with prayer and it will come to life. Also, find a good friend that will push and encourageyou.
