uniBank GHANA SUPPORTS GUBA 2013 AWARDS

uniBank (Ghana) Limited, an indigenous and wholly-Ghanaian owned bank in Ghana has added its support to the UK’s only award scheme to recognise British-Ghanaian achievements

The bank, recognised as one of the twenty-seven commercial banks licensed by the Bank of Ghana, is backing the annual Ghana UK Based Achievements (GUBA) Awards as a sponsor.

The award highlights the business achievements of British-Ghanaians, rewarding individuals who have not only excelled in a commercial capacity but have also made some contribution to the Ghanaian community through their business or by supporting a cause outside of work.

Speaking about the sponsorship deal, Clifford Mettle, Executive Adviser on International and Institutional Relations at unibank Ghana said, “We are associating ourselves with GUBA because we felt it’s a prestigious and internationally recognised award which celebrates outstanding individuals and businesses that impact their communities in various sectors of endeavour. And in our quest to promote our brand as a Bank, it is appropriate to associate ourselves with such a brand.”

GUBA founder and CEO Dentaa Amoateng says she is “delighted” to have the support of uniBank and said: “uniBank (Ghana) Limited is a typical example of how hard work and dedication can reap results. The bank only began providing banking services in January 2001 yet has a total asset of US$144.3+ million as at 2009. This is a great example of the kind of success stories we want to celebrate through the GUBA Awards”.

uniBank makes such an important contribution to the Ghanaian communities, aside banking, the bank also upholds its corporate social responsibility. In October this year uniBank supported the Leukemia Project Foundation in Ghana by presenting them with an amount of GHS5, 000; GHS 30,000 to the Ghana Navy; GHS 5,000 to the Progressive Road Contractors Association and many more.

Now in their fourth year, the GUBA Awards — a non-profit organisation backed by the Ghana High Commission and the British High Commission in Ghana — have become the benchmark of business and innovative success, recognising achievement and enterprise within the UK’s over 500,000-strong Ghanaian community as well as the “outstanding and valuable” contribution that British-Ghanaians make to both countries.

Since GUBA’s inaugural event in 2010, a variety of politicians, celebrities and other high-profile stars have lent their support including Tony and Cherie Blair, Dianne Abbott MP, FIFA President Sepp Blatter, actor Hugh Quarshie, and most recently Adam Afriyie MP.

Previous GUBA Award winners include MoneyGram, Armajaro Trading, Entrepreneurs Sir Sam Jonah, Roland Agambire, and Labour politician Lord Paul Boateng.

The Award winners will be announced at a high-profile black-tie event at the exclusive Park Plaza Hotel in London on 16 November 2013.

Other current sponsors include RLG, Armajaro, MoneyGram, Invest In Africa, Blavo and Co, Gamank Group, British High Commission Accra, Homestrings, MYGAPPAEL and Arik air
