A delegation from the Greenwich Council in the United Kingdom will arrive in Ghana on Friday for a 5-day (15th -20th November) official visit to cement relationships on the Meridian Line. The Meridian Twinningwill build on the shared World Heritage status of the ‘Zero Line of Time’ as a development axis north to south linking Greenwich and Tema, the UK and Ghana and Africa with Europe.
The visit, under the auspices of the British High Commission and the GUBA Awards, will bring together business leaders and entrepreneurs to explore economic growth opportunities to further this unique collaboration in multi-sectoral areas of interest to Ghana and the United Kingdom.
The delegation is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with officials at the Tema Municipal Assembly on economic, cultural and educational partnerships in an effort to bolster Meridian ties between the two communities. The Delegation will also visit Jamestown, Accra’s first port, named after King James with his Royal Palace at Greenwich. Greenwich is also a Royal Borough.
Educational collaboration will feature prominently in discussions. Greenwich officials are hoping to establish a relationship that will facilitate cultural and education exchanges between selected schools, students and teachers as part of the British Council’s ‘Connecting Classrooms’ project.
The delegation will also meet with heads of universities in Ghana to discuss potential areas of higher education partnership and cultural exchange based on the historic relationship.
Greenwich Council will also explore opportunities for sporting exchanges and partnerships via Ghana’s Olympic committee to facilitate sport clubs working together in sports education.
The Chief Executive Officer of GUBA Awards, Dentaa Amoateng, states: collaboration between Ghana and the United Kingdom is vital so both countries can learn from each other’s successes.
She added that the visit signals a new era of economic and educational collaboration ‘Down the Line’.
